ABOUT
Rebecca G. Henry is a contemporary fine art oil painter based in the New York City area. Born in China and shaped by five years living in France, she moves between Eastern contemplation and Western painterly tradition — belonging fully to neither, drawing quietly from both.
She came to painting not through formal training but through instinct. Self-taught and guided by an inner pull toward the canvas — what she describes as a divine download — she found that when she paints, hours dissolve. Her hands move with a knowledge that feels older than this lifetime.
Working in oil on canvas, her paintings explore the threshold between the seen and the felt. Land, water, and sky become interior landscapes; light is not depicted but summoned. Each work begins in darkness — a warm, deeply toned ground — so that every layer of light that follows is earned rather than assumed.
Somewhere in each painting, a small white figure often appears — a solitary presence at the edge of vast atmospheric space. It is her signature, and her quiet question to the viewer: where are you in all of this?
Her practice is rooted in stillness — not as absence, but as arrival. The paintings do not describe a place. They hold one. They ask nothing of the viewer except to be present, and to allow silence to do its work.
